16 % children (over 9 million) 6-19 year olds are overweight

According to the CDC in 2004 "16 % children (over 9 million) 6-19 year olds are overweight or obese" this is three times what it was in 1980. Phys Ed Class helps students in being fit for life. It is evident that many people who are obese when young have a higher risk of being obeast when they are adults. It only makes sense that we keep kids fit and healthy at a young age to atleast increase their chances of being healthy into adulthood. Many parents do not motivate or help their kids to be active on a daily basis, or at least a few days a week. Playing one sport for 3 months a year is not going to help students stay fit, it needs to be year round, it needs to be more than one sport or activity. Moving on... Schools play an even bigger role in helping decrease the percentage of childhood obesity. It was said in class that some elementary classes only get one, maybe two days of phys ed per week. Thats just wrong. They are promoting this disease or at least their not doing enough to prevent it. Phys Ed is needed on a daily basis, activity, sport, all of this if we want to see a respectable decline in childhood obesity.

Kids need to learn better excersize habits, and one way to do this is to have physical education every day in school. school is there to educate, and young children need to learn how much they much excersize. so many children dont excersize at all;technology has made many children lazy. Just the fact that schools question physical education's importance sends a bad message to kids saying that its not that important to have in one's life.

I was also one of those students who had phys.ed twice a week. I really didnt mind though because honestly I was lazy. But I do think that if gym was everyday I definately would gain that energy and motivation. Another thing is that, I dont understand how schools could make you gain weight and become obese. When in school I felt like I was starving everyday. The cafe was so cheap with food. If anything I lost weight. I think food needs to be improved and daily activities as well.

Yeah, i don't understand why they don't have PHYS ED in schools everyday that might help the students pay more attention to their other courses. sitting in a classroom all day long is so boring, and students get so tired of sitting and that's why they start to act up, they need to move around, they can't be sitting in a chair all day long. Having them excersie a half an hour a day its not goning to hurt their education, it will help them foucs better, because they come back fresh and they are ready to learn. But by giving them a one time physical education a week its not enough and its not healthy and that tells them students that excersing is not important and its not a healthy thing to do.

I agree that forming healthy habits at a young age is vital to preparing students to be fit for life. Good health, when learned early, is continued and it is important, not only to prevent obesity itself, but also in order to prevent the health problems that come with obesity.

This to me is unacceptable. Our society not just the parents or the schools need to start to do something. Otherwise our kids are in for a rough ride. Lack of pe class and parents just letting their kids do nothing is a start. bottom line is kids need to start becoming more active.

I spoke to my shadowing teacher about this and he explained that even most of his classes only meet with him once a week. Thats crazy to me, he also said that he never see any kids playing outside in the parks or with parents after hours. He said they are never active outside the gym. Obesity= only having gym once a week
